Position Description
The City of Seattle is a leader on wage, labor, and workforce practices that enhance equity, address wage gaps, and create a fair and healthy economy for workers, businesses, and residents. As part of this mission, we are seeking a Paralegal to support the Office of Labor Standards (OLS) enforcement team and other teams in their organizational and record-keeping support related to enforcement. You will report to the OLS Enforcement Director.

Job Responsibilities
Your top 3 priorities in this role will be:

1. Recordkeeping support: opening, preparing, maintaining, and closing electronic intake and case files and records in case management database and SharePoint; using case management system to organize documents for review and production; managing organization and maintenance of enforcement records in database and SharePoint; preparing database reports and performing data entry for quality assurance; tracking and processing intakes, cases, enforcement activities, payment and distribution of financial remedies using database; conducting post-investigation compliance monitoring; tracking, performing data entry, and maintaining accuracy and consistency in database for case filings, outcomes, payment and distribution of financial remedies, and compliance monitoring.

2. Responding to disclosure requests under the Washington State Public Records Act (PRA): identifying records custodians; using case management database and SharePoint to collect and organize records for review, discovery, and production purposes; maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of PRA law and related City practices and procedures, enforcement division processes for response to PRA requests, and ongoing identification, collection, and production of enforcement division records under the PRA; and serving as a back-up for the public disclosure officer (involves working with enforcement division staff and other department staff, including paralegal and public disclosure officer).

3. Conducting investigative and legal research: conducting worker intake; providing information and referrals; conducting investigations or similar enforcement actions; locating, contacting, communicating with and/or interviewing witnesses, complainants, respondent employers or hiring entities; collecting, organizing, reviewing, and analyzing documentary and testimonial evidence and information; drafting, preparing, and sending or serving legal documents on parties; and conducting legal research; identifying, applying, and analyzing relevant laws, rules, policies, etc.

Qualifications
In addition to the ability to perform the tasks described above, you will need to possess the following required qualifications or a combination of education, training or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class:
  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of experience performing paralegal duties
OR
  • A certification from a nationally accredited paralegal training institution
  • Three years of related experience
OR
  • Four years of related experience
Additional Information
This is a full-time, civil service position that is eligible for overtime and is classified as a Paralegal. This role is classified under the step progression compensation program and is non-represented.

Compensation : The full pay range for this classification is $41.44 - $48.31 hourly. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $41.44 hourly. Current City employees' starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules.

Working Schedule : This position offers a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to work in-person three days a week. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.


Hiring Timeline: First interviews for this position are tentatively scheduled for October 19-23, 2026. Second interviews for this position are tentatively scheduled for November 2-6, 2026.
