Director - Targeted Protein Degradation

Amgen seeks a Director of Targeted Protein Degradation to lead scientific strategy within the Induced Proximity Platform, defining long-term vision and driving innovation in protein degradation and proximity-based therapeutics. The role reports to the Head of IPP and encompasses building capabilities, identifying high-value biological targets, and translating emerging science into drug discovery opportunities across oncology, inflammation, and rare disease.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute long-term scientific strategy for targeted protein degradation within the Induced Proximity Platform
- Build next-generation capabilities in chemical biology, proteomics, functional genomics, and computational sciences
- Lead multidisciplinary team of scientists across protein degradation, chemistry, and drug discovery disciplines
- Advise Research leadership on platform investments, capability development, and innovation strategy
- Drive integration of AI and data-driven approaches into target identification and degrader design
Requirements
- Recognized expertise in targeted protein degradation, chemical biology, or related scientific disciplines
- Demonstrated track record translating pioneering science into drug discovery opportunities
- Leadership experience building and developing multidisciplinary scientific teams
- Strategic vision for advancing induced proximity therapeutics and degrader platforms
- Knowledge of computational biology, AI/ML applications, and emerging drug discovery technologies
- Experience partnering across organizational functions and external scientific networks
