The Digestive Disease Institute is one of the largest and most comprehensive digestive disease programs in the country, bringing together gastroenterology, hepatology, surgery, nutrition, psychology, and other specialties to provide multidisciplinary, patient-centered care. GI Behavioral Medicine is an established and growing component of the Digestive Disease Institute. Our team currently includes eight psychologists embedded within multidisciplinary GI programs , with broad departmental support to continue expanding GI Psychology across Cleveland Clinic. Our goal is not simply to add psychologists to existing clinics. We are looking for colleagues who want to develop areas of expertise, build programs, conduct research, innovate, and help shape the future of integrated behavioral health within gastroenterology. Role Description Cleveland Clinic's Digestive Disease Institute is seeking a Clinical Health Psychologist to join our growing GI Behavioral Medicine team . This is a full-time position with opportunities for hybrid clinical work and substantial collaboration with gastroenterologists, surgeons, dietitians, advanced practice providers, psychiatrists, nurses, researchers, and other members of our multidisciplinary teams. We have significant clinical needs throughout the Digestive Disease Institute, including: Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI), including IBS IBS Medical Home and integrated multidisciplinary care General Gastroenterology Inflammatory Bowel Disease Hepatology Bariatric and advanced endoscopy GI oncology and gastric cancers Nutrition and complex nutritional disorders Pediatric-to-adult GI transitions Motility and other specialized GI populations Prior specialization in GI Psychology is not required. Candidates with strong clinical health psychology training who are interested in developing expertise in gastroenterology are encouraged to apply. Importantly, we also welcome candidates with specialty interests that may not currently be represented within our program. One of the strengths of our model is the opportunity for psychologists to develop a clinical and academic niche around their interests . With the breadth and volume of patients cared for within the Digestive Disease Institute, there are numerous opportunities to build new clinical programs and areas of expertise. Clinical responsibilities may include psychological assessment, evidence-based behavioral interventions, multidisciplinary consultation, development of integrated care pathways, and treatment of the psychological and behavioral factors associated with chronic digestive disease. Beyond clinical practice, there are significant opportunities to participate in research, education, program development, digital health, quality improvement, and healthcare innovation . For qualified staff pursuing meaningful research or innovation programs, protected time may be available to support this work. As Cleveland Clinic's GI behavioral health programs continue to grow, there may also be opportunities to contribute to program development across the broader Cleveland Clinic system, including initiatives in Florida, the United Kingdom, and the UAE . Qualifications Doctoral degree ( PhD or PsyD ) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution. Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited internship . Completion of postdoctoral training with specialization in Clinical Health Psychology/Health Psychology is required. Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the State of Ohio. Experience providing evidence-based psychological assessment and intervention within medical, hospital, or other integrated healthcare settings. Strong interest in gastroenterology, chronic illness, integrated behavioral health, and multidisciplinary medical care. Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, surgeons, dietitians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Experience with evidence-based interventions relevant to medical populations, including behavioral medicine approaches, coping with chronic illness, treatment adherence, symptom management, and health behavior change. Interest in developing an area of clinical expertise within GI Behavioral Medicine. Interest or experience in research, education, program development, digital health, quality improvement, or innovation is strongly encouraged.
