Job Description - Histotechnician - Dermatology (260005AG) A Brief Overview The Histotechnician prepares tissue specimens for surgical pathology examination. This includes evaluating the acceptability of the specimens, properly embedding the processed tissue, cutting/sectioning the specimens, and staining the slides using automated or manual methods. What You Will Do Performs embedding and cutting on both biopsies and large surgical specimens, while consistently meeting quality and productivity standards. Follows lab policies and procedures to perform moderate complexity testing Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in all assigned areas to accurately and efficiently perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing. Maintains, troubleshoots, and documents laboratory equipment failures. Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations. Actively participates in departmental projects; contributes positively to department environment/initiatives. Contributes to a positive work environment. Takes responsibility for self-development. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
