Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the acute hemodialysis unit. The role includes working with patients experiencing various kidney-related conditions and requires a strong background in acute hemodialysis.

Job Details

• Shift: 3x12 hours (06:45 - 19:15)
• Contract Length: Longer contracts accepted through February 27, 2027
• Float Requirement: Float as needed to other units
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
• On-Call Requirement: Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as part of the RN rotation

Patient Care Responsibilities

The registered nurse will provide care for patients diagnosed with:

• End-stage renal disease on dialysis
• Chronic kidney disease progressing to hemodialysis
• Acute kidney injury
• Peritoneal dialysis failure or infection necessitating a modality change to hemodialysis
• Transplant rejection requiring hemodialysis

Skills and Experience

• 2 years of acute hemodialysis experience required
• 1st time travelers accepted
• BLS certification required
• CDN or CNN certification preferred
• ACLS certification preferred

Unit Details

The acute hemodialysis unit consists of 9 stations, including one isolation station. Patient assignments are based on census levels, with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. This position may involve support tasks in other departments when dialysis patient assignments are not available.

Special Equipment

The RN must have experience working with:

• Fresenius acute hemodialysis equipment
• Baxter peritoneal dialysis equipment
• Marcor Millennium HX portable reverse osmosis machines

Documentation and Communication Systems

Documentation will be completed using Epic Dimensions and medication will be accessed via Pyxis. Communication among healthcare team members occurs through Voalte phones for verbal reports.

Orientation

The orientation program consists of 24 hours in total: 12 hours in ICU/offsite and 12 hours in the dialysis room/peritoneal dialysis.

Notes

Contract staff may be assigned to work in emergency situations, including catastrophic events or mass casualties.
