Company Conformance StatementsIn the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.Position purposeThe Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting staff with answering telephone calls, daily maintenance, miscellaneous administrative duties, data entry and filing.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/TasksReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samplesProcess paperwork associated with accessioning and reportingPrepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining, under direct supervisionPerform routine H&E staining either manually or automatedDistributing slides to pathologistsFile blocks and slidesFiling paperworkDiscarding specimen containersSpecimen pickup(s) as neededPerform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automatedPerform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipmentResponsible for all assigned clerical duties associated with the Pathology laboratoryEnsure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are metEnsure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulationsMaintain a clean and well-organized work areaOther duties, as assignedQualificationsEducation: High school diploma or GED required. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions.
