Job Description
The position of the Instructor/Employment Counselor requires excellent interpersonal skills with staff, faculty, students, community representatives and professional colleagues in all settings. The person in this position must exhibit a pleasant, helpful and supportive demeanor at all times and must have the ability to develop, manage, mentor and direct students.
Job Requirements:
- Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida to practice Professional Nursing,
- Must meet the state requirements for the program expected to teach in
- Instruction shall be provided in the areas of class work and practical application of skills necessary for safe practice utilizing the current approved Florida curriculum framework and performance standards and the standards and guidelines of the State of Florida.
- Instruction shall consist of classroom academic teaching, clinical laboratory demonstration, return demonstration, and clinical practical experience.
- Ensures that examinations are administered and correctly graded
- Ensures that frequent constructive evaluations are cooperatively compiled
- Ensures that participant attendance is recorded and monitored
- Ensures that each participant file documents meeting requirements for successful program completion or a required remediation plan is identified as necessary.
- Responsible for establishing, publishing, and implementing remediation for students as well as advising struggling students to attend scheduled remediation
- Works collaboratively with other Instructors of other portions of the course or program in order to offer a coordinated and integrated curriculum
- Works closely with clinical training staff to ensure a meaningful related and integrated clinical experience for all students.
- Conducts individual conferences and advisement with each student throughout the student’s program.
- Abides by the policies and procedures of the School and honors the rights and responsibilities of students and other Instructors.
- Provides instruction of job specific skills, basic skills, self improvement skills, life skills, employability skills, and job retention skills
- Assess participant’s abilities and skills for matching with suitable employers
- Provides students with the skills to make the education to work transition successful
- Enhances and supports necessary skills to maintain employment
- Provides follow-up communication between participant and clinical sites in order to resolve problems and assists in achieving successful placement and retention.
- Requires interaction with students and employees. All inquiries must be handled in a prompt and friendly manner.
· Participates in the Development, implementation, evaluation and update of the purpose, philosophy, objectives/outcomes and organizational framework of the nursing program.
· Participates in the planning of each learning experience
· Ensures that course objectives/outcomes are accomplished
· Ensures that students do not perform activities for which they have not received instruction and in which they have not been found competent
· Supervises and evaluates students giving care to clients in clinical areas
· Provides direct supervision in the classroom and in clinical experiences
· Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum.
· Participates in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the policies of the institution.
· Participates in academic advising and guidance of students.
- Provides theoretical instruction and clinical experience.
· Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.
· Evaluates teaching effectiveness in accordance with the institution’s policy.
- Maintains own nursing competence and professional expertise in the area of classroom instruction and clinical competence through clinical experience, workshops and/or continuing education.
- Participates in community and college wide events, and contributes thoughts and ideas to community involvement, recruitment activities, and social media participation
· Participates in a faculty organization which meets regularly and has recorded meetings at the school with the Academic Dean. These meetings provide for faculty involvement in the operation of the program.
Environment and Physical Demands:
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, handling, and stretching, frequent interruptions from staff, faculty, and students. Must work in a busy environment while supervising clinical visits at clinical sites or in the simulation lab. Constantly moves about to coordinate work

(a)1. For a professional nursing education program, the program director and at least 50 percent of the program’s faculty members are registered nurses who have a master’s or higher degree in nursing or a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s or higher degree in a field related to nursing.
