Job Overview Investigators conduct full and complete criminal/civil investigations into allegations of fraud and misconduct against the California Medical Assistance Program (Medi‑Cal) and other DHCS programs. Employees are peace officers under California Penal Code Section 830.3(h) and perform investigative duties comparable to other peace officers. The investigation and audit (A&I) division uses a field‑based model where staff spend at least 90% of their assignments in the field. Responsibilities Investigate allegations of fraud and misconduct across Medi‑Cal and other DHCS programs. Maintain a firearm, conduct day‑to‑day field assignments using state law‑enforcement vehicles, and travel as required to cover investigations. Maintain a neat personal appearance, wear plain clothes, and conceal firearms. Analyze situations accurately, draw valid conclusions, and take immediate and effective action under stress or adverse conditions. Travel throughout California, gather and analyze facts, reason logically, and make appropriate recommendations while treating all individuals with respect and an unbiased, unprejudiced manner. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must be fluent in a bilingual language unless a current record verifying fluency can be provided. Fluency or a verbal test must be demonstrated before hiring. Applicants must also pass a drug screening, background investigation, medical clearance, and psychological evaluation prior to being hired. Special Requirements Drug screening must be passed before employment. Background investigation must be cleared before employment. Medical clearance must be obtained before employment.
