Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Diagnostic Virology in the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) and Department of Medicine & Epidemiology, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis The successful candidate will be in residence at the CAHFS laboratory on the UC Davis campus. The current base pay range is $185,600-$346,900. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay (i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step) are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications and experience. DVM or equivalent with advanced degree or training in virology required. Two years of experience in diagnostic virology preferred. Board certification or eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Microbiology (ACVM) or European College of Veterinary Microbiology (ECVM) preferred. Appointment renewal to the 4th year requires ACVM or ECVM board certification. Demonstrated interest in avian and/or livestock diseases required. Demonstrated ability in traditional viral isolation and identification, as well as experience in molecular diagnostics and sequencing required. Demonstrated interest, aptitude, and capability in advancing viral diagnostic disciplines, disease investigation, and diagnostic interpretation required. Demonstrated aptitude and experience in teaching required. Knowledge of or experience with outbreak response preferred. The successful candidate will have: i) excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with staff, veterinarians, producers and government agencies; ii) client-focused, service-oriented approach to diagnostics; and iii) demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning diagnostic duties. Diagnostic Service The candidate will function as a diagnostic virologist in the CAHFS laboratory located on the UC Davis campus. The diagnostic caseload includes predominantly livestock and avian species with an emphasis of disease conditions affecting food animal species. Interaction with veterinarians and livestock producers is an integral part of this position. The incumbent provides expertise and scientific oversight to all four CAHFS’ laboratories. During responses to viral disease outbreaks, the incumbent coordinates outbreak response diagnostic services and serves as the primary contact with State and Federal agencies. Creative Work Creative use of diagnostic case material and development of innovative approaches in diagnostic virology resulting in peer-reviewed publication is essential. Teaching The incumbent will have limited teaching activities, which may include didactic and case-based presentations to veterinary students, graduate students, and residents as well as outreach activities for client education. Service University and public service through departmental, school and university committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate activities is required.
