Division of Youth Services (DYS) protects and restores safety through a continuum of care, including juvenile detention, evaluation, commitment, parole, and juvenile parole services. Its mission is to provide trauma‑responsive, healthy, and non‑violent environments for youth aged 10–21. Job Purpose: This direct‑care position supervises adjudicated and pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting, ensuring safety, staff, and regulatory compliance while offering programming and training. Responsibilities Safety/Security: provide direct care, supervise youth, enforce behavioral plans, intervene during crises, de‑escalate conflicts, use physical restraint when necessary, conduct debriefings and searches. Youth Center Programming: implement the Youth Center’s behavioral management program, coach youth, support DYS initiatives, and facilitate crisis intervention. Documentation/Recording and Reporting: record observations, maintain logs and databases of activities, document unit activities, and report incidents. Organizational Accountability: uphold DYS values of non‑violence, open communication, social responsibility, and trauma‑responsive culture, and abide by CDHS codes and policies. Training: complete the DYS Pre‑Service Training Academy, Youth Center training, orientation, ongoing online training, and maintain behavior‑management strategies. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED (no substitutions). Eligible to be on feet for the entire shift, climb stairs, and be physically capable of intervention with assaultive youth. Minimum age 21, no felony convictions or history of domestic violence. Valid Colorado driver’s license. Pass CBI and FBI background investigations. Preferred Qualifications College education in behavioral health, juvenile justice, or related field. Experience with adjudicated/detained youth in secure facilities or behavioral health setting. Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups, working with trauma‑affected adolescents, and mentoring. Proficiency in verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques. Highly Desirable Competencies Conflict management skills. Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability. Sound judgment and decision making. Self‑control and composure in stressful situations. Clear verbal communication and respectful engagement. Ability to identify security hazards and communicate promptly. Ability to produce factual written records. Work Environment Shifts include evening, night, weekend, and holidays; durations range from 8‑12 hours. Overtime, inclement weather, or move‑travel may be required. Conditions of Employment Shift work required. Travel to assigned training sites or alternate work sites. Administration of the Diana Sexual Risk Screening Tool. Publication of a self‑disclosure statement if a terminated or resigned prior state employee. Background investigation includes current/previous employer check. Continued employment contingent upon completion of training and annual mandated training.
