Staff Platform Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: Redwood City, CA (Hybrid, 2 days per week)

Compensation: $200,000-$250,000 base salary plus equity

Visa Support: H-1B transfers and TN-1 sponsorship available for the right person

We're looking for a Staff Engineer to help build the infrastructure behind a new generation of AI agents; systems that don't just generate text, but reason, orchestrate, make decisions, and complete work across enterprise environments.

If you're excited by distributed systems, AI reliability, retrieval architectures, multi-agent workflows, and the practical realities of deploying LLM-powered products in production, this role is designed for you.

Core Focus

Over the next 12-24 months, you'll help shape:

Agent orchestration systems

• Building frameworks that coordinate complex AI workflows across enterprise applications
• Designing systems that enable non-technical users to automate sophisticated business processes

Memory & Retrieval

• Developing approaches that move beyond traditional RAG patterns
• Creating persistent memory architectures that allow AI agents to maintain context across multi-step workflows

AI Reliability Engineering

• Reducing hallucinations and improving reasoning quality
• Building evaluation frameworks, observability tooling, prompt optimisation systems, and production safeguards

Human + AI Collaboration

• Creating infrastructure that enables humans and AI agents to work together seamlessly
• Supporting human-in-the-loop workflows where trust, visibility, and control are critical

Platform Foundations

• Scaling distributed services and backend systems that power enterprise-grade AI products
• Building tooling that enables rapid experimentation without compromising reliability

Responsibilities:

• Make architectural decisions that influence the future direction of the platform
• Lead technical initiatives from concept through production
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organisation
• Identify emerging opportunities in AI infrastructure before they become industry standards
• Balance speed, experimentation, and long-term platform health

Experience we are looking for:

• 4-15 years of software engineering experience
• Current or recent Staff Engineer-level responsibilities
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and backend architecture
• Strong experience with Python or Java
• Experience building microservices and large-scale platform infrastructure
• Exposure to vector databases, retrieval systems, or LLM-powered applications
• A track record of leading technical initiatives in fast-moving environments

I am not looking for AI researchers, I am more interested in engineers who know how to take emerging AI capabilities and make them work reliably in production.
