We're seeking a detail-oriented HVAC Start-up Technician to perform the final and most critical step of the installation process: commissioning newly installed HVAC systems, verifying performance, completing quality assurance inspections, and ensuring every installation meets manufacturer specifications and company standards.

This position is ideal for an experienced HVAC professional who enjoys troubleshooting, precision testing, and delivering quality workmanship in a residential new construction environment.

Position Summary

The Start-up Technician is responsible for the startup, testing, commissioning, quality verification, and warranty support of newly installed residential HVAC systems. This role ensures all equipment is installed correctly, operating efficiently, and ready for homeowner occupancy while maintaining Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors' commitment to exceptional quality and customer satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform startup and commissioning of newly installed residential HVAC systems.
• Verify proper installation of equipment prior to system startup.
• Test overall system performance, including:
  • Airflow
  • Refrigerant charge
  • Electrical components
  • Safety controls
  • Thermostat operation
  • Temperature split
  • Static pressure
• Calibrate thermostats and equipment settings for optimal comfort and energy efficiency.
• Complete commissioning checklists and startup documentation accurately.
• Diagnose installation deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
• Perform warranty-related service on newly installed systems as needed.
• Ensure installations comply with manufacturer specifications, company quality standards, and applicable mechanical codes.
• Communicate installation issues with installers, field supervisors, and operations management.
• Educate homeowners on basic system operation, thermostat functionality, filter replacement, and maintenance recommendations.
• Maintain service vehicle, tools, testing equipment, and inventory.
• Practice safe work habits and comply with OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Represent Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors professionally with builders, homeowners, and business partners.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of residential HVAC experience preferred.
• Startup, commissioning, service, or installation experience strongly preferred.
• EPA Certification required.
• Strong understanding of:
  • Heat pumps
  • Gas furnaces
  • Air handlers
  • Split systems
  • Refrigeration cycle
  • Electrical diagnostics
• Ability to read installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and HVAC schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to successfully pass background screening and pre-employment drug screening.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Climb ladders, crawl through attics and crawlspaces, and work in confined spaces.
• Stand, bend, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the workday.
• Safely operate company vehicles and equipment.
