The Quality Engineer maintains and continuously improves the organizations AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management system, ensuring that products and processes meet stringent aerospace and industrial standards. This role oversees quality-related documentation, audits, inspections, and training, while partnering closely with engineering, production, and inspection teams to drive product reliability, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage the organizations AS9100 and ISO 9001 registrations, ensuring ongoing compliance with all applicable standards and requirements.

• Monitor and maintain all elements of the quality management system, including customer complaints, scorecards, feedback, QMS changes, improvements, statistical process control (SPC), on-time delivery, and training activities.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, improve, and maintain documents and records that meet AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.

• Review, approve, and clearly communicate customer purchase order quality requirements to ensure accurate implementation in production.

• Review and approve production travelers, manufacturing outlines, and other work instructions to confirm alignment with quality and regulatory requirements.

• Coordinate and manage inspection and quality department personnel, supporting their daily activities and ensuring effective resource utilization.

• Verify product acceptability by conducting inspections and tests against defined specifications, using appropriate measurement tools and techniques.

• Coordinate with and support customer and government source inspections conducted at the facility, ensuring readiness and clear documentation.

• Maintain customer-required approvals for product inspection, such as E-Silk, DQR, and ASQR, and ensure they remain current and compliant.

• Manage non-conforming products and processes according to documented procedures, including identification, segregation, disposition, and documentation.

• Conduct failure analysis in response to customer requests, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

• Lead and manage corrective and preventive actions internally and with suppliers, including developing corrective action plans and tracking their effectiveness.

• Coordinate and schedule IPC training for inspection personnel to ensure they remain current with industry standards and best practices.

• Work closely with engineering and production leaders to ensure product specifications are accurate, maintained, and consistently met in manufacturing.

• Coordinate and maintain all test and measuring equipment, including calibration and associated documentation, to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance.

• Collaborate with production leadership to coordinate training for employees on quality-related processes, procedures, and standards.

• Provide support to the assembly area as needed, offering guidance on quality requirements, inspection criteria, and process improvements.

• Manage the AS9100 internal audit program, including floor audits, website audits, training audits, and stockroom audits, and follow up on findings.

• Support customer audits and other third-party audits by preparing documentation, participating in audit activities, and implementing required actions.

• Perform AS9102 First Article Inspections to validate new or revised products against specifications and customer requirements.

• Carry out additional quality-related responsibilities as assigned, contributing to continuous improvement of processes and systems.

Essential Skills

• Quality engineering and quality assurance experience in an assembly or quality control environment, typically three to five years.

• Strong background in quality control practices, including inspection, testing, and verification of product against specifications.

• Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and corrective action planning, including CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).

• Proficiency with inspection tools, gauges, and instruments used to measure product characteristics and verify compliance with specifications.

• Working knowledge of AS9100 standards and audit processes, including internal audits and support for customer or third-party audits.

• Ability to manage and execute corrective action plans, both internally and with suppliers, to resolve quality issues effectively.

• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey quality requirements and findings to colleagues across functions.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, drawings, and work instructions accurately.

• Capability to perform AS9102 First Article Inspections in accordance with aerospace requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or completion of a technical school program is preferred.

• Industry certifications such as IPC-620, IPC-J-STD-001, and ASQC certification are preferred and considered an advantage.

• Experience working within a formal quality management system environment, particularly one aligned with AS9100 and ISO 9001.

• Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and quality metrics such as on-time delivery and customer scorecards.

• Comfort working in diversified product environments, including applications in missiles, robotics, and commercial space.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and inspection teams.

• Track record of contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing or assembly operations.

Work Environment

This role operates within a structured quality organization that includes a Quality Lead, a Quality Manager, and a team of nine inspectors who report to the Quality Lead. The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager. The typical work schedule runs from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with alignment to production hours and some flexibility anticipated over time. The team occasionally shares Saturday coverage with the Quality Lead to support production and inspection needs. The environment is highly diversified, supporting products used in missiles, robotics, and commercial space, and offers a strong culture of treating people well, with good retention and a history of growth. Work is performed in a manufacturing and assembly setting with regular interaction on the production floor, use of inspection and test equipment, and collaboration across departments to maintain high quality standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valencia, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $45.67/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
