Performance Responsibilities

Basic Function: The K-12 Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by student-athletes across all grade levels within the school district. The Athletic Trainer will work closely with coaches, school nurses, physicians, and parents to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, while promoting wellness and injury prevention education throughout the district. This role requires availability during days, nights and weekends to accommodate games and practices.

Knowledge Of

• Knowledge of K-12 student development and safety consideration.
• Conduct baseline and post-injury concussion assessments and follow return-to-play protocols.
• Create, update and implement Athletic Venue Emergency plans.
• Compassionate and student-centered approach to care.

Ability To

• Provide immediate care and first aid for athletic injuries during practices and games.
• Develop and implement injury prevention programs tailored to students at various grade levels.
• Evaluate injuries and provide treatment or referrals to appropriate medical professionals. Maintain accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
• Collaborate with coaches to develop safe practice and conditioning programs.
• Attend home athletic events and selected away events as required.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment.
• Serve as a liaison between physicians, coaches, parents, and school personnel regarding athlete health and safety.
• Educate student-athletes and coaches on proper nutrition, hydration, and wellness.
• Ensure compliance with state and district policies, as well as athletic governing body rules.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association and Board of Certification to include Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency. CPR certification as instructor.
