Division Chair, Applied Clinical Psychology

Founded in 1979 by a group of psychologists and educators, The Chicago School has grown into a dominant and globally respected leader in the fields of psychology and behavioral health sciences. The institution has an annual operating budget of nearly $150 million and employs nearly 600 full‑time faculty and staff. Students are meaningfully connected in their communities and donate more than 1.2 million service hours per year through fieldwork and practicum opportunities. Program The Applied Clinical Psychology program is a post‑master’s Psy.D. program. Students complete two years of coursework covering advanced topics in psychology, a practicum in the second year, and a full‑time internship in the third year. They also complete a dissertation as part of the program. Position Title Division Chair – Applied Clinical Psychology Principal Duties Distinguish the program by providing a vision that directs and motivates faculty to be innovative. Manage the operations of the program in a complex, fast‑paced higher education environment. Ensure the quality of faculty, curriculum, assessment of student learning, and scholarly activity of faculty and students. Actively involve in student recruitment efforts to facilitate program growth and meet annual enrollment targets. Develop strategic partnerships in the community to support student recruitment and program growth. Maintain collegial and supportive relationships with relevant accrediting and professional bodies and complete required reporting or documentation. Lead faculty committee and production assignments. Facilitate Program Faculty Governance and all faculty meetings. Supervise and develop Program, Affiliate, and Adjunct Faculty to meet quality standards and goals as well as institutional priorities. Oversee and coordinate the academic program to meet quality, relevance, and currency standards and goals. Oversee and coordinate Student Affairs within the program. Develop viable new curricular offerings in the field. Participate in research, writing and hold ultimate responsibility for any necessary self‑study or program‑related reports. Manage the student learning assessment plan and the program review process to identify needed improvements to student learning. Develop strategic academic and budget plans for the department, including recommendations from the assessment and program review process. Outreach and recruit faculty and support student recruitment. Coordinate or manage student training. Supervise the teaching, advisement, dissertation activities, and other duties performed by faculty members to meet departmental academic goals. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Optimistic, action‑oriented leader who can motivate faculty to embrace values in the classroom and within the institution. Ability to balance institutional priorities with program needs and initiatives. At least 3–4 years of administrative experience as an academic department chair or program director, and a record of scholarship or professional experience commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Experienced practitioner‑scholar with strong visionary and leadership skills who will thrive in a diverse, rich, and innovative environment. Time is allotted for professional practice, which is encouraged for all faculty and academic administrators. Position Qualifications Earned doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, preferably from an APA‑accredited program. License to practice Psychology, preferably in California. Strong record of administrative experience in higher education. Teaching and academic administration at graduate level and professional experience. Experience with online as well as on‑ground teaching formats. Strong interest in developing leaders, as this job requires the development of future leaders in the field through curriculum. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage operational processes, including the program budget. Solid people‑development skills with a focus on providing opportunities for faculty and staff to excel. High productivity and quick response time, with the ability to minimize operational tasks and maximize creativity and innovation. Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to be flexible and work in an environment of expansion and change. Compensation & Benefits This opportunity is budgeted at $110,000–$135,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
