Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 07:00 - 19:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Strong nursing skills in acute care and time management. Experience in neuro stepdown. Description: This is a 30-bed unit that consists of acute care and stepdown patients. The patient ratios are 6:1 for acute care and 4:1 for neuro stepdown. Staffing includes 1 RN Charge overseeing the unit, 1-2 Techs, and a unit secretary. Equipment available includes vital sign machines, high flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction, and various drips for acute care. For neuro stepdown, equipment includes Vapotherm, Bipap, Trachs, and titrating cardiac drips. The documentation system used is Meditech. Weekend shifts are required. Experienced nurses may float after completing orientation. Patient experience requirements include bedside shift reports, personal connections, and daily huddles. Common procedures performed on the unit are lumbar punctures and chest tube placements. Advanced critical thinking skills are necessary. The dress code allows for black, any shade of blue or grey, and any color scrubs on designated days. The unit offers recognition programs and opportunities for professional growth. This is an excellent starting unit for those wishing to advance to ICU.
