Pay Information: $21.25 per hour, family benefits provided Position Summary: The district electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment throughout the Butler Area School District's facilities. The Electrician will perform both scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency repairs and must be able to independently diagnose electrical problems, prioritize work requests, and respond to electrical issues throughout the district. Essential Functions:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical systems, equipment, fixtures, and components throughout district facilities.
- Maintain electrical systems in classrooms, offices, cafeterias, athletic facilities, mechanical spaces, outdoor areas, and other district locations.
- Diagnose electrical problems using appropriate testing equipment, meters, and other diagnostic tools.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical components associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boiler, and building control systems
- Install, repair, and maintain lighting systems, including interior, exterior, emergency, and security lighting.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical outlets, switches, circuits, panels, breakers, disconnects, and related components.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems supporting boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, HVAC systems, pumps, air-handling equipment, and other major building systems.
- Assist with electrical work associated with building renovations, construction projects, equipment installations, and facility upgrades.
- Install and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, raceways, junction boxes, and related infrastructure.
- Respond to electrical emergencies and urgent maintenance requests throughout the district.
- Inspect electrical systems and identify potential safety hazards or code concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, materials, and completed work.
- Read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer's specifications.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, lifts, ladders, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties safely.
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of electrical parts, supplies, and equipment and communicate supply needs to the supervisor.
- Coordinate with other maintenance personnel and outside contractors when electrical work is part of a larger project.
- Work cooperatively with administrators, building staff, contractors, vendors, and other district employees.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance to other maintenance staff when appropriate.
- Follow all applicable electrical codes, OSHA requirements, district policies, manufacturer specifications, and safety procedures.
- Maintain required licenses, certifications, and continuing education necessary to perform the position.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies or participate in an on-call rotation, if required by the district.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, electrical equipment, and building electrical maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Working knowledge of boiler electrical systems, boiler controls, pumps, motors, sensors, safeties, and related mechanical-system controls.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Working knowledge of fire alarm, security alarm, intrusion detection, access control, and emergency notification systems.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions when diagnosing and repairing electrical problems.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work requests across numerous district facilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance staff, administrators, contractors, and building personnel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Ability to work effectively in a school environment while minimizing disruption to students and staff.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, lifts, and other equipment required for the position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program, vocational/technical training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Three years of experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or large-scale building electrical systems preferred.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- Clearances required upon employment
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
- Climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, materials, and electrical components.
- Work indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Work in mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, crawl spaces, attics, ceilings, and other areas where electrical and building systems are located.
- Perform work requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Safely use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
