Director of Finance

An independent school is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee its daily financial operations and support sound financial planning. Reporting to the CFO/COO, this role manages tuition accounting, cash operations, financial reporting, payroll review, and the annual audit while supervising the Staff Accountant and Accounts Payable Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee tuition billing, collections, and reconciliation of tuition revenue and receivables.
• Manage cash receipts, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial analysis.
• Reconcile donation, endowment, restricted fund, and other accounts.
• Assist with the annual operating budget and enrollment-related financial processes.
• Review payroll and prepare monthly payroll reconciliations.
• Coordinate audit schedules and serve as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Prepare financial analyses and materials for leadership and board committees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5–7 years of relevant financial management experience.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, including nonprofit and fund accounting.
• Strong analytical, communication, and people management skills.
• Proficiency in Excel; experience with Blackbaud is a plus.
