Rutt's Machine Inc. is seeking an experienced Cylinder Head Machinist to join our engine machine shop in Elizabethtown, PA.

This is a hands-on machining position focused on diagnosing, repairing, machining, and rebuilding commercial diesel cylinder heads. We're primarily looking for someone with strong machining skills and experience working to precise tolerances. Previous diesel engine or cylinder head experience is highly preferred, but we are open to an experienced machinist who has the mechanical aptitude to learn the engine-specific side of the position.

Rutt's Machine has been in business for more than 54 years and works on industrial engines from virtually every major diesel manufacturer, including Caterpillar and Cummins. Our shop receives work from customers across the country and occasionally internationally, giving our machinists exposure to a wide variety of engines and projects.

What You'll Do

You'll handle cylinder heads throughout the repair and rebuilding process, including:

• Disassembly and cleaning of Cummins, Caterpillar, and other diesel cylinder heads
• Cylinder head inspection and precision measurement
• Pressure testing and crack detection
• Cylinder head resurfacing
• Valve-seat machining and fitting
• Valve-guide replacement and machining
• Valve grinding
• Valve spring testing
• Valve recession and protrusion measurements
• Injector seat and sleeve replacement
• Cylinder head assembly
• Final inspection to OEM specifications

Equipment You'll Work With

Our shop equipment includes:

• SERDI WR120
• SERDI 101
• Peterson TCMA-40
• SCHOU equipment
• Newclear pressure testing equipment
• Sunnen honing equipment

Experience with this exact equipment is helpful but not required if you have relevant machining experience.

What We're Looking For

The right candidate will have strong precision machining skills and be comfortable working with tight tolerances.

Preferred experience includes:

• Cylinder head, engine rebuilding, or related machining experience
• Approximately 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience preferred
• Ability to accurately use micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools
• Experience with valve seats, guides, stems, injector sleeves, or similar engine components
• Ability to identify cracks and determine whether a component can be repaired
• Ability to read parts diagrams and technical breakdowns
• Basic computer skills
• Machinist certification or equivalent training is a plus

We're willing to consider candidates whose experience comes from a related machining background if they have the precision skills and mechanical aptitude necessary to learn our processes.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts.

Flexible starting times are available within our normal shop schedule, generally between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM .
