LICENSING SUPERVISOR – CHILD CARE
Salary: $43,000 Working hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Location: Tampa, FL Responsibilities Review licensure studies for new and existing childcare facilities, family day care, homes, and large family childcare homes to ensure they contain all required information and comply with child‑care standards before a license is issued. Ensure compliance with required inspections within the necessary time frame, complete timely supervisory review of inspections, and archive within ten days. Process all new and existing provisional and probationary licenses, reviewing administrative reports to avoid overdue licenses and ensuring timely submission. Ensure staff complete required re‑inspections for facilities cited as out of compliance, using administrative reports to maintain compliance. Review case files for required documentation and organization per department guidelines, including completion of background‑screening training. Verify accuracy of administrative reports and master lists, ensuring counselors update caseload data timely. Log complaint/incident reports, document appropriately in the caseload, and ensure proper follow‑up. Take appropriate enforcement action for non‑compliance, including administrative fines, legal consultation for serious issues, and license revocation. Provide ongoing supervision and direction to subordinate employees through staff meetings and individual conferences. Offer technical assistance to childcare providers and the general public via trainings, telephone contacts, written guidelines, and other methods. Maintain current files on policies and regulations, ensuring staff compliance with Administrative Code chapters 65C‑22 and 65C‑20. Read and implement policies within ten days of issuance, complete special assignments, and review counselors’ entries into the CARES system to ensure data integrity. Complete leave and attendance records for self and all staff under direct supervision. Investigate complaints and abuse allegations within required timeframes, collaborating with legal as needed and following prescribed administrative actions. Record daily attendance properly, ensuring all work conducted outside the office is logged and timesheets are completed on time. Obtain required inspections from other departments or agencies (e.g., Fire and Environmental Health). Respond to special assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisors. Manage and support a unit of six Child Care Licensing Counselors, each overseeing 100‑110 cases of childcare facilities and homes. Qualifications Knowledge of Florida Statutes 402, 435, Florida Administrative Code 65C‑20, 65C‑22, and 65C‑25. Must pass fingerprint and background screening and possess a valid, unrestricted Florida driver’s license. Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the childcare industry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in computer use and familiarity with programs such as Excel, Microsoft Office, Notepad, Outlook, etc. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong interviewing skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Leadership and supervisory skills, able to manage daily work responsibilities of the unit, analyze data, and produce reports. Excellent time‑management, strong organizational skills, confidentiality, and the ability to multitask and adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to multitask and manage a large caseload if required.
