CHILD CARE SITE SUPERVISOR

Position Overview One opening for a 12‑month employee in the Child Care Department. The position is an 8‑hour split shift, Monday through Friday. BASIC FUNCTION Under the direction and general supervision of the Director of Child Care and Preschool Program, the Child Care Site Supervisor will plan, organize, lead, and participate in the daily operations of before‑ and after‑school child care programs for District school‑aged elementary and middle school students; develop and implement program objectives; supervise and guide child care staff; adhere to applicable program requirements; maintain program goals by promoting a safe and nurturing environment that supports the developmental, social–emotional, and physical needs of all students. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Plan and design supportive environments for TK‑8 grade students Supervise, plan, and engage in intersession camps and field trips Collaborate with school site staff, families, and others to support a whole‑child program approach Assess, review, and evaluate activity areas and equipment to ensure that appropriate standards of safety, sanitation, and organization are maintained Instruct and train staff in methods of child motivation, age‑appropriate interventions, positive redirection, and model‑appropriate behavior Create and develop activity and snack calendars Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing to maintain student‑to‑staff ratios Assist in recruitment and selection process; conduct staff evaluations; maintain site records; monitor vacation, sick leave, and staff timekeeping Assist in budget planning and expenditure control activities Monitor and maintain inventory control for supplies, equipment, and materials, including purchasing of supplies, snacks, and/or materials for the program’s operations Administer routine first aid and seek assistance for serious illnesses or injuries; this may include contacting emergency service providers Administer pre‑authorized medication or monitor student self‑administration under specific guidelines and direction Participate in professional development opportunities offered by the department, school site, and District May be required to work a split shift or temporarily at another site Perform related duties as assigned JOB REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS Skill To: Plan, organize, and supervise work of others Communicate effectively in both oral and written form within a culturally diverse environment Understand and carry out work with minimal supervision Maintain records and prepare accurate, complete reports Operate basic computers, program software, and electronic devices Knowledge of: Child growth and development concepts Child behavioral characteristics Behavior management strategies and techniques Organization and child care leadership methods and techniques Employee motivation and supervision principles Recreational games, crafts, and team sports, including equipment, materials, and supplies needed to support these activities Technology to assist with office tasks and procedures Equity, access, and inclusion practices as it relates to all program participants Ability to: Train Child Care staff members Support working with students who have a wide range of needs Foster a positive, team‑oriented work environment by building cooperative relationships with coworkers, the public, and parents Promote team building and an inclusive environment that fosters a healthy culture, sense of belonging, and strong collaboration Demonstrate empathy, patience, understanding, and cultural responsiveness in interactions and decision‑making with a diverse range of students Handle difficult situations using good judgment Identify and prioritize needs to solve problems independently Prioritize work assignments, policy changes, and new procedures Suggest improvements to Director, as appropriate Receive and incorporate constructive criticism; adapt easily to work assignments, additional priorities, and new procedures Efficiently use and manage time; meet deadlines EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and skills may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: Experience: Two years of paid experience, which includes partial leadership over staff in an organized children’s center, enrichment program, child care program, or comparable child care program. Education: Equivalent to the completion of high school and one of the following: 12 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in early childhood education or child development, including at least one three‑semester unit (or four‑quarter unit) course in each of the following core areas: Child growth and development or human growth and development Child, family, and community or child and family Program/curriculum; or Possession of, or the eligibility of a California Children’s Center Permit, authorizing service as an Associate Teacher in a Child Development Center program; or A bachelor’s degree LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS Possess and maintain current First Aid Certification Possess and maintain current CPR Certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS Engage in moderate physical activity, working in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day Stand and walk for extended periods (greater than one hour) while supervising children and facilitating physical activities, including running/jogging, to ensure safety during play Bend down, squat, step, and/or kneel frequently Sit on the floor and participate in classroom activities Ability to grasp, reach, push, and pull classroom and outdoor equipment, aids, and supplies Lift and carry program supplies and materials by bending, lifting, and transporting items Demonstrate sufficient arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate tools, laptop/desktop computer, multimedia tools, and other program/office equipment Actively participate in playful playground activities with children Utilize sufficient hearing and speaking abilities to professionally project voice and communicate effectively with staff and students in both group and one‑on‑one settings Maintain visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, observe and monitor children and the environment for safety EMERGENCY REQUIREMENTS Pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100, all public employees are required to serve as disaster service workers subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them by their supervisor or by law. BENEFITS Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours, will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions. VETERAN PREFERENCE Veterans who have been honorably discharged after 30 days or more of service during time of war or national emergency will receive an additional 5 points which will be added to the passing score. Disabled veterans receive 10 points. Any applicant who claims veteran’s credit must submit DD Form 214 at the time of application. Failure to submit DD Form 214 at the time of application shall result in no veteran’s credits being considered or added to any passing score.
