$143.15k - $170.93kAsian Law Caucus
Type: Management, Regular, Full-Time, Exempt.
Location: San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role that is required to work in our San Francisco office two days a week. Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as local, statewide, and domestic travel, may be required.
Deadline: Applications are due by September 14
Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $143,147 to $170,925. The compensation is determined based on relevant years of experience.
ALC’s comprehensive benefits package includes generous vacation and paid holidays; medical, dental, disability, and life insurance coverage (ALC pays 100% of premiums for employees and 75% for qualified dependents); a flexible spending account (FSA); and a 401K retirement plan with employer non-elective contribution and match.
Travel & Meetings: All ALC staff are expected to participate in regular check-in meetings with their supervisor/supervisees, staff meetings, team meetings, and other organization meetings, as required. This includes two (2) annual retreats, an anniversary celebration dinner, and meetings as needed in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this staff member will help launch and grow ALC’s individual giving program in support of the organization’s mission, values, and long-term sustainability. This is a new role and an exciting opportunity for someone to help shape the vision, strategy, and systems for individual giving at ALC at a pivotal moment in the organization’s growth. They will manage strategies to strengthen donor engagement across giving levels, deepen relationships with current supporters, and help bring new individual donors into ALC’s community of advocates and partners.
A critical part of the role is building and sustaining meaningful donor relationships grounded in ALC’s work and vision, including partnering closely with program staff, leadership, and board members to connect supporters to the impact of ALC’s litigation, policy, and community-based advocacy. ALC has a robust donor community, including alumni—former staff, board members, and volunteers—who have stayed connected to the organization over many years. This role offers an important opportunity to more intentionally cultivate and steward those longstanding relationships.
This staff member will also help expand the reach of ALC’s individual giving program. While many of ALC’s current donors are based in the Bay Area, the organization is eager to grow its fundraising footprint statewide and nationally in alignment with the scope and significance of its work. The right person will bring the strategic thinking, relationship-building skills, and initiative needed to broaden ALC’s donor base, strengthen connections beyond the Bay Area, and help build a more expansive network of individual supporters over time.
Because this is a new role, the Individual Giving Officer will play a central part in devising and implementing strategy, helping generate increased cash flow and fundraising momentum so that ALC can continue to invest in and build out its development team over time. They will be part of a small individual giving team composed of a Director of Alumni Giving and Development Associate (the Development Associate also supports the institutional giving team). The right person will be energized by the opportunity to build, test, and strengthen systems and approaches in partnership with colleagues across the organization.
The ideal candidate has a strong track record in individual fundraising and is a skilled relationship-builder, strategic thinker, and strong project manager. They are comfortable balancing day-to-day donor cultivation and stewardship with longer-term planning and execution. They bring excellent judgment, strong communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail. They understand the importance of fundraising as a core part of movement-building and organizational sustainability and bring the care, discipline, and commitment needed to advance it in service of the communities ALC has fought for since 1972.
The Organization
ALC is the nation’s first legal organization focusing on advancing and defending the civil rights of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities. Since 1972, ALC has fought for access to affordable housing in San Francisco’s Chinatown, litigated high-profile civil rights cases, advocated for the passage of landmark policy changes, and provided an array of services including community education, advocacy, and direct client representation to further the rights of low-income immigrants and communities of color, across our Housing Rights, Workers’ Rights, Immigrant Justice, and National Democracy Initiative programs, and other emerging areas of law.
