Senior Mechanical Engineer

Chicago, IL | $100,000-$120,000+ | Full-Time

We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team focused on designing highly customized industrial machinery. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, working on one-of-a-kind equipment, and seeing projects through from concept to final assembly.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a low-volume, custom machine design environment and enjoys collaborating closely with manufacturing, machining, and assembly teams.

What You'll Do

• Design custom machinery, tooling, and mechanical assemblies using 3D CAD software
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings, including GD&T and dimensioning
• Modify existing machine designs to meet unique customer requirements
• Develop custom components and subassemblies from concept through production
• Work closely with machinists and machine builders to ensure designs are manufacturable
• Support fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor
• Review designs throughout the build process and resolve engineering issues
• Estimate engineering effort and manage project responsibilities from start to finish

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a custom machinery or industrial equipment environment
• Experience designing custom parts, assemblies, and tooling
• Strong 3D CAD experience ( Creo/PTC Creo preferred )
• Experience with parametric modeling and manufacturing drawing creation
• Solid understanding of GD&T and design for manufacturability
• Experience supporting fabrication, machining, and equipment assembly
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple engineering projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with custom machine design or special-purpose equipment
• Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and metal joining processes
• Experience in aerospace, defense, or other advanced manufacturing industries
• ITAR experience is a plus
