Museum Director Job ID: 298113 Location: Statesboro, Georgia Full/Part Time: Full Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Department: Museum Job Summary: Responsible for the administration and oversight of all facets of museum operations, including staff supervision, management of budgets and grants, the development of educational programming and exhibits, fundraising and revenue generation, collections management, public relations, policy and procedures to maintain AAM accreditation, and serving as an interdisciplinary unit central to the university's academic mission. Responsibilities Hire, supervise, evaluate, and train museum staff, including undergraduate and graduate students, funded and temporary staff. Oversee planning and implementation of exhibits and educational programming on and off‑site. Develop and secure outside funding sources through grants, donations, and formal fund development in collaboration with the Georgia Southern University Foundation and Office of University Advancement. Administer museum fiscal matters including annual budgets, foundation funds, and earned income according to university policies. Maintain knowledge of developments and best practices, establish relationships and leadership roles in professional museum organizations, and integrate accreditation standards into student learning. Oversee marketing, advertising, social media, and internal/external messaging; serve as primary spokesperson to enhance visitation, reputation, and collaboration. Ensure proper care and preservation of museum facilities and collections. Manage graduate teaching responsibilities and collaboration with MA Public History, Museum Studies programs, and development of a Ph.D. program in Museum and Public Humanities. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements: Ph.D. in History or American Studies. Experience: Minimum five years of museum or cultural resource executive management experience; proven success in program and personnel administration; successful budgetary management and development of private/external support. Skills & Abilities: Customer service, communication, teaching, collaboration, proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google, and relevant applications. Knowledge: University policies, museum accreditation standards, ethics, best practices, and museum collections management systems. Proposed Salary: $78,706 – $102,285 per year (exempt, paid monthly).
