OVERVIEW

The Department of Community Services Transportation Division is looking for a Maintenance Specialist 1 to join its Road Maintenance team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team dedicated to community safety and improving the transportation infrastructure by performing a variety of manual labor tasks and job duties.

As a Maintenance Specialist 1 , your duties will include:

• Street cleaning

• Sanding and clearing of roadways

• Transporting materials

• Towing equipment

• Applying pavement treatments

• Maintaining drainage systems

• Vegetation management

• Right-of-way and shoulder maintenance

• And a wide range of other diverse activities including emergency operations

This position require teamwork and the ability to perform strenuous manual labor outdoors in various weather extremes such as heat, cold, rain, storms, snow, floods, etc. Work shifts will be 4/10-hour days.

With 297 miles of roads, 6 Willamette River bridges, over 20 smaller bridges, and over 1,750 culverts to manage, our staff is committed to maintaining the community’s livability. TO QUALIFY

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, AND

• Two years of experience in maintenance and/or road construction

• One year of truck driving experience

• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License at the time of appointment

• Pass a pre-employment drug test

Type of Position: This hourly, union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
