Counter Sales Associate

Summary The Counter Salesperson will increase sales and customer satisfaction by efficiently and courteously assisting walk-in and telephone customers in the selection and acquisition of needed products, applying technical knowledge to satisfy customer needs. Job Title Counter Sales Associate Reports To Branch Manager Location Branch Pay Range $17.50 to $26.50 per hour Essential Duties and Responsibilities Pulling, filling, packing and setting up orders for delivery or pickup Maintain the ability to determine the status of an order at any given time Follow any special instructions pertaining to an individual order Receive shipments, log into inventory, maintain inventory through audits Process returns accurately Service customers at the counter by taking orders and entering them into the system accurately; giving priority to regular accounts Use electronic and published catalogs to provide product, pricing, and availability information to customers Follow company pricing and credit guidelines Resolve customers’ problems quickly or direct them to appropriate personnel Retrieve orders from warehouse quickly and accurately Maintain proficiency in computerized systems and other technologies as required Advise and actively upsell customers on complementary products beyond the original order Sell and promote the items and products that are stocked; provide alternative suggestions to customers who request other products and successfully convert initial requests to stock brands Understand and explain how the company differentiates from direct and indirect competition Demonstrate effective presentation skills to influence and communicate with various audience types and sizes Analyze customers’ current and future needs to determine whether they can be helped at the counter or need to be passed to the next level of customer service/sales Build and maintain customer relationships Meet and greet all customers at point of sale with service, respect, and knowledge Add value to customer and internal interactions by understanding customer business models Recognize different customer types within the supply chain and adjust approach for optimal results Demonstrate active listening skills to add value to customer and internal interactions Conduct oneself in an acceptable and polite manner toward customers and coworkers Keep and maintain a neat counter area and product displays Organize electronic and paper-based information Use organizational resources and escalation processes for issue resolution Respect and appropriately use the internal chain of command Establish team relationships for improved job effectiveness Demonstrate comprehensive company product knowledge and articulate competitive advantage Demonstrate comprehensive industry knowledge and apply it to enhance decision-making effectiveness Assume responsibility for team outcomes Leverage team interactions for improved individual effectiveness and actively participate in team activities to share best practices Exhibit positive outlook, camaraderie, and passion for the job, business, customers, and team Identify buying habit changes and relay that information to appropriate people within the organization Demonstrate competence in features and functionality of all product lines Apply all product offerings and solutions appropriately in customer environments Add value to customer and internal interactions by understanding the market, customers, suppliers, and competitors Convey accurate messages, ideas, and decisions through clear verbal and written communication Maintain professional appearance according to the employee handbook Attend and participate in all meetings and events necessary for team success Identify and diagnose the root of problems and take strategic steps to solve or prevent new or recurring problems Follow procedures accurately and carefully to complete work tasks Ensure high-quality output and oversee personal processes, tasks, and work products to maintain freedom from errors, omissions, or defects Takes action to correct quality problems and notifies others of quality issues as appropriate Adhere to rules and regulations as set forth in the Employee Handbook Other duties as assigned Qualifications Willingness to learn Product/applications experience preferred; wholesale distribution experience preferred Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs Must be able to stand on feet up to 8 hours daily Frequent stooping, squatting, stretching, bending, and lifting to reach inventory items Work environment requires both inside and outside exposure to heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions Benefits You will be eligible to participate in the Company’s benefits program on the first of the month after 45 days of employment.
