Position Summary

Primary Function: Plans, implements, supervises children and evaluates classroom activities.

Prepare Children for Success

• Provide children with a learning environment with the varied experiences which will help them develop socially, cognitively, physically and emotionally.
• Identify and reinforce experience which occur in the home that parent’s can utilize as education activities for the children.
• Help each child develop a sense of awareness and esteem; expressing and accepting feelings and to develop pride as an individual and a member of a cultural /ethnic group.
• Provide opportunities for the child to develop creative abilities to explore and experiment with a variety of media not only through art, music and dramatic activities, but in all aspects of the program.
• Connect the center’s values to the activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
• Provide activities and challenging experiences that stimulate curiosity, questioning, and problem-solving skills.
• Encourage and supervise children to develop social skills necessary to function as productive members of the group.

Program Development and Implementation

• Plan and prepare a weekly/monthly lesson plan to meet the development needs of all children using The Creative Curriculum.  
• Observe and document each child gearing towards DRDP’s-R and ASQ’s measurements on a weekly basis or as needed.
• Integrate the educational aspects of the various Preschool components in a daily program of activities.
• Focus, measure, and implement CLASS.  Attend trainings to help facilitate CLASS implementation into the program.
• Conduct parent conferences twice a year aligning goals with DRDP’s-R and ASQ’s measurements.
• Involve parents in educational activities of the program to enhance their role as the principle influence on the child’s education and development.
• Properly record attendance, health checks, CACFP monitoring, record keeping, and meal counts on a daily basis.
• Resolve disciplinary problems appropriately, complete Incident/Injury Reports as needed.
• Supervise children’s activities to ensure their safety-AT ALL TIMES.
• Attend and complete mandatory annual trainings: CCLD, CDE, CDSS, CACFP, and TSA/PTM
• Organize and maintain a well-arranged and orderly environment including outside and inside areas from classroom.
• Report any suspected child abuse matters immediately to your supervisors.
• Follow assigned responsibilities when emergency disasters occurs as well as performing practice drills.
• Demonstrate good judgement.
• Represent The Salvation Army and the center in a positive way both with staff and community.

Site Supervisor

• Ensure to adhere and meet full compliance with CCLD, CACFP, CDE, and CDSS regulations on a daily basis when CDC director is off site.
• Assisting the CDC Director in supervising Teachers, staff, and volunteers by ensuring a smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff child inter-relationships when CDC Director is off site.
• Oversee the administration and maintenance of facility, materials, and equipment when CDC Director is off site.
• Distribution of enrollment packets, provide program description & tours to clients and community members.
• Assist with meal serving and/or meal preparation when needed.
• Assist with updating monthly program calendars, monitor and keep current postings on Class Dojo.
• Assist with recruit and enroll families, ensuring families meeting eligibility/need criteria.
• Assist with record keeping, documenting monthly submission reports when CDC Director is off site.

Additional Responsibilities

• May participate in special programs and/or events when needed.
• May drive company vehicle when needed.
• Other tasks/responsibilities requested by CDC Director and/or Program Director.

Relationships

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Center staff (professional and volunteer), Center members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

Essential Functions

• Prepare children for success, provide a high quality program development and age appropriate curriculum implementation, providing positive health & safety for each children under your care.
• Understanding: Department of Education & Social Services guidelines; Child Care Food Program guidelines; Early childhood development and appropriate practices; basic child psychology; appropriate health and safety codes; reporting procedures for suspected child abuse; laws and regulations covering topics such abuse; materials, tools and equipment to be used in the classroom setting.
• Skills in establishing and maintaining effective communication with adults and children
• Standard office productivity software.

Working Conditions

• Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. 
• Ability to be able to lift to 25lbs. 
• Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. 
• Ability to operate electronic devices; computer, laptop, tablets, printer. 
• Ability to retrieve, scan, and send emails with supporting office/email etiquette. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Must pass live scan/background check
• Current Site Supervisor permit or higher issued by CTC- California Teaching Credentialing.
• Current required immunizations: Pertussis-(whopping cough), Measles, and influenza. TB test upon initial hiring.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Current CA Food Handling certificate.
• One year experience in working with children.
• Valid California Driver's License

• Ability to complete the basic PTM-Protect the Mission course within 30 days of initial start date .
