CDOC Part time Physician II MAT - Denver

Job Summary Part‑time physician position (4 hours per week) providing comprehensive medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) for inmates with opioid use disorder (OUD) in Denver, CO. Requires collaboration with the Alcohol and Drug Section of the Mental Health Division of the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) within a secure correctional environment. Responsibilities Provide treatment to inmates with OUD. Perform comprehensive medical histories, including substance use, psychiatric histories, and relevant physical examinations. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and schedule regular visits based on treatment needs. Prescribe and adjust methadone, buprenorphine (mono or dual therapy), and naltrexone as clinically indicated. Serve as primary clinical supervisor for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, providing line authority, supervision, consultation, and education. Deliver instruction, demonstration, and training to other health‑care professionals. Provide medical advice to other organizational units regarding OUD patients. Maintain accurate computer data entry, referrals, consultations, medical reporting, and inmate grievance documentation in accordance with DOC regulations and clinical standards. Attend quarterly medical review board meetings, monthly physician round tables, and other division meetings. Minimum Qualifications Licensed to practice medicine in Colorado as an M.D. or D.O. Board‑eligible (completed residency) or board‑certified in one of the following specialties: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Preventive Medicine. Special Qualifications Experience prescribing methadone and buprenorphine for OUD. At least one year of experience in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry. Board certification in the primary medical specialty and, preferably, in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry. Required Competencies Provide direct patient care to inmates. Knowledge of full‑spectrum primary care and office‑based procedures. Maintain professionalism in a complex environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Fluent English, both spoken and written. Create accessible documents following plain‑language guidelines. Self‑control, emotional stability, and resilience under stressful conditions. Ability to remain alert and observant throughout shifts. Tolerance to high‑stress and confinement situations. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing medical care in a correctional environment. Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine. Experience managing chronic medical conditions as a physician.
