Newburyport High School Dean of Specialized Programs Newburyport Public Schools, Newburyport High School - Newburyport, Massachusetts. Job Description Newburyport High School is seeking a talented student‑focused administrator to join their administration team. The selected individual will assist in leading the school community in positively‑oriented behavior supports with a focus on high academic and behavioral expectations, social‑emotional development, and a productive school environment while overseeing specialized special education programming. Position: 199 days per year. Performance Responsibilities Collaborate with the Director of Special Education while overseeing Special Education Programming. Assist the administrative team with student discipline systems, establishing the social culture and behavioral supports needed for a safe, respectful, and effective learning environment for all students. Work in partnership with teachers and administrators in supervision and evaluation of teaching staff. Oversee student culture & discipline systems, including restorative practices, the office disciplinary referral system, parent meetings, re‑entry and behavior contacts, acknowledgement systems, consistent consequences for problem behavior, and a continuum of intervention supports. Mediate peer conflict situations among students, setting behavioral expectations. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians of students exhibiting at‑risk or repeat behaviors and meet with parents as necessary to address concerns regarding behavior and/or school culture. Support office disciplinary referrals during the school day and monitor daily attendance and tardiness. Collect data and suggest and implement continual improvements to the current behavior support system. Review and report on student attendance, monitor and analyze data, implement school‑wide interventions, and support students and families with chronic absenteeism. Support the implementation of positively‑oriented behavior plans for individual students. Lead staff training in classroom management and other key functions of school culture. Work in conjunction with the principal and assistant principal to handle various duties, including entrance and dismissal monitoring, and cafeteria duty. Assist with the management of documentation of all student behavioral concerns. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal. Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree (required); Master’s Degree (preferred). Massachusetts DESE Assistant/Principal 9‑12 Certification (required). Massachusetts DESE Special Education Director Certification All Levels (required). Experience working in an administrative role with supervisory responsibilities (preferred). Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies: administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff, and visitors. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Well‑organized with excellent leadership abilities. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills. At least 3 years of relevant experience (preferred). Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
