Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: San Francisco, California
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,200–$2,320
• Position: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
• Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Start Date: November 17, 2026
• Assignment Duration: Approximately 14 weeks
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week, 36 hours per week
• Shift: Rotating day and night shifts; days are approximately 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. and nights are approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
• Patient Population: Adults with neurological, neurosurgical, neurovascular, trauma, and critical care needs
• Typical Assignment Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
• Unit Environment: High-acuity Neuro ICU with significant surgical volume and turnover
• Documentation: Epic electronic health record
• Floating: May be required to other departments, units, or approved nearby facilities based on qualifications and operational needs

Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Requirements

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand
• BSN required
• At least 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience; Neuro ICU or Trauma ICU experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Neurocritical care experience, including experience with EVDs, ICP monitoring, or post-neurosurgical patients, preferred
• Strong Epic charting skills
• Ability to complete required onboarding, orientation, and competency modules
• COVID-19 vaccination and booster required, with limited medical or religious exemptions considered
• Ability to provide two professional references from recent employers

Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill adult patients in a Neuro ICU setting.
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients with acute stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurosurgical conditions, respiratory failure, and multisystem organ dysfunction.
• Manage and monitor EVDs, lumbar drains, ICP monitoring systems, arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and other advanced critical-care equipment.
• Care for mechanically ventilated patients and those receiving high-flow oxygen, continuous sedation, neuromuscular blockade, vasoactive infusions, and cardiac drips.
• Interpret dysrhythmias, arterial blood gases, and neurological assessments, and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, blood products, TPN/lipids, emergency therapies, and procedural sedation according to clinical standards.
• Support post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgical recovery, including management of high-acuity surgical patients.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation services, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic and contribute to safe patient handoffs.
• Float to other qualified areas or approved nearby locations when needed while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care.
