Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering expert, patient-focused care within a telemetry unit in a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level combines specialized skills and certifications to independently manage patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safety and optimal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Monitor patients with continuous cardiac telemetry, perform detailed assessments, respond swiftly to changes in cardiac rhythms and neurological status, administer medications including non-titratable drips, and develop personalized care plans. Act as a compassionate patient advocate, providing education to patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle adjustments. Promote evidence-based telemetry practices.
  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain a clean, safe environment adhering to infection control and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA. Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Documentation: Accurately record patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established patient care standards.
  • Professional Development and Leadership: Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students, supporting their growth. Engage in ongoing education and serve as a resource for telemetry best practices. Provide relief charge nurse coverage as needed.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Respond promptly and effectively to cardiac emergencies, including arrhythmias and chest pain, utilizing advanced clinical skills.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care settings. Transitional RN candidates must have two years in acute care or similar environments.
  • Proficient in post-procedure care such as post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG monitoring.
  • Strong skills in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.
Competencies
  • Technical proficiency with centralized cardiac monitoring systems.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry or equivalent experience considered.
  • Licenses and Certifications
    • Current Registered Nurse license valid in the region.
    • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
    • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional RNs must obtain within six months.
    • Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.

    All candidates must successfully complete a physical evaluation, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment.
