Medical Record Examiner – Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility (Opening Date: 01/27/2026) Job Description The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is a Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. This position is entrusted with maintaining prisoner health records and ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations. Responsibilities Maintain prisoner health records in accordance with federal and state statutes and departmental policies. Assist with documenting diagnosis codes on prisoner records. Maintain health care databases. Perform continuous quality improvement activities and generate reports. Coordinate distribution of health record information. Process release of information requests. Prepare hard‑copy health records for transfer and receive hard‑copy records. Train new health care employees on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Coordinate and track specialty health care appointments. Work within the secure perimeter of correctional facilities. Required Education and Experience Associate’s degree in Health Information or Medical Record Technology. Professional experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 8: Medical Record Examiner 8 – No specific type or amount of experience required. Medical Record Examiner 9 – One year of experience equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 8. Medical Record Examiner 10 – Two years of experience, including one year equivalent to a Medical Record Examiner 9. Additional Requirements and Information Must hold a certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator. Disqualified for individuals convicted of a felony or with pending felony charges (Public Act 140 of 1996).
