Physical Science Center Lab Aide - Student Eligibility: Must be a current Oklahoma County Community College (OCCC) student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the Fall or Spring semester, or 3 credit hours for the Summer semester, OR must have a Federal Work Study award. Job Duties: Effectively interact and communicate with students, faculty, and staff while performing duties. Participate in all required training applicable to this position offered by OCCC. Assist PSC lab assistants and staff with maintenance and upkeep of lab and communal areas, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting. Wash, rinse, dry, and store laboratory glassware in designated storage areas. Assist in opening or closing the PSC following procedures as assigned. Assist with administrative tasks during scheduled times in the PSC. Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain laboratory, preparation, and stockroom areas in a clean and orderly condition. Safety and Policy Duties: Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents and College Policies & Procedures. Contribute to a safe educational and working environment. Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices to prevent injury and illness for self and others. Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established procedures and practices. Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, and shelter‑in‑place drills and be prepared to assist others in taking appropriate action during a health or safety emergency. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Physical Sciences Center and Labs. Basic computer skills. Knowledge relevant to tutoring any coursework for which the applicant is applying. Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area. Adhere to policies, procedures, and guidelines to assure personal safety and the safety of other personnel. Independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills. Punctuality and reliability. Effective communication, customer‑service expertise, and human‑relations skills while performing at work. Preferred Qualifications: Basic knowledge of laboratory setup, materials, and procedures. Required Training: All OCCC training that is appropriate for this position when offered. Physical Demands / Working Conditions: Medium work: Occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force; frequently exert up to 10 pounds to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform essential functions; must exchange accurate information in various situations. Frequently move about the PSC Labs and SEM building to assist staff and perform essential functions. Operate a computer and other office/lab equipment; may involve repetitive hand and wrist motions. Frequently remain in a standing or stationary position; frequently position self to access materials above head or at ground level. Use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to push, pull, grasp, and/or lift materials or equipment. May be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high heat, hazardous chemicals, oils, infectious diseases, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases. Work Hours: Flexible work schedule ranging from 10 to 25 hours per week, may include nights or weekends depending on PSC operational requirements.
