Sonographer - OB/GYN

About the Job

We are seeking a qualified Sonographer - Ultrasound to join Ochsner LSU Health. This role involves performing advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in collaboration with staff radiologists, adhering to safety protocols, and serving as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures independently following established protocols.
• Assist radiologists in guided procedures across various settings.
• Review and ensure the quality of imaging before transmission.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and perform quality control procedures.
• Manage departmental operations such as inventory and equipment maintenance.
• Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and respecting their privacy.

Qualifications:

• Completion of a CAHEA-approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or registry eligible (within 1 year of hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• 2 years of sonographer experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficiency in computer applications and software.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of abdominal anatomy and pathology.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

This role involves medium physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and exposure to blood, body fluids, and potentially hazardous environments.
