Descript is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to join our innovative research team, which develops cutting-edge models for our product's unique features, including Video Regenerate, lipsync, and video translation. This role focuses on enhancing multimodal understanding, enabling our AI editing agent to evaluate and refine creative editing choices by perceiving media like a human editor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop specialized models for specific editing workflow problems.
• Train models to enhance multimodal understanding of edited media.
• Collaborate with a diverse team to transition prototypes to production features.
• Contribute to the unique dataset development and evaluation methods.
• Mentor and technically lead other researchers or engineers as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong background in deep learning with a focus on multimodal understanding.
• Experience in mentoring or leading research teams.
• Ability to adapt and grow into specific domains such as computer vision or audio.
• Track record of owning research direction.
• Experience with model evaluation in creative contexts is a plus.
