Schedule: 5 days per week, 10:30 AM–7:30 PM
Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Weekend and Holiday Availability Required

At the Crisis Center of Comal County (CCCC), our mission is to embrace survivors of crisis and trauma and empower them to positively change the trajectory of their lives.

Food is an important part of creating a safe and welcoming shelter environment. As a Food Services / Case Aide, you’ll do much more than prepare meals. You’ll help ensure that residents have nutritious, well-prepared food while also providing the day-to-day support that helps our shelter run safely, smoothly, and compassionately.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced food-service professional who takes pride in their work, enjoys staying busy, and understands that a good meal can be about much more than what is on the plate. You’ll plan and prepare meals, manage food inventory and ordering, maintain a safe and organized kitchen, transport food and supplies, and work alongside shelter staff to create a calm, respectful environment for residents.

You’ll also serve as a Case Aide, providing operational and client support and interacting with individuals and families who may be experiencing the effects of trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness.

What You’ll Do

Prepare Great Food

• Plan, prepare, and cook balanced meals for shelter residents and staff.

• Accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences whenever possible.

• Follow posted menus while ensuring adequate portions and food availability.

• Prepare meals in advance for shelter staff to utilize on designated days off.

• Apply safe food-handling, sanitation, and food-storage practices consistently.

Manage the Kitchen & Pantry

• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming kitchen and dining area.

• Manage food inventory, pantry organization, ordering, and food storage.

• Monitor food supplies and help ensure the shelter has what it needs to provide regular meals.

• Maintain food-service records and documentation accurately.

• Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.

Support USDA/CACFP Requirements

• Follow applicable USDA and CACFP meal-pattern, food-service, and documentation requirements.

• Maintain accurate records related to meals, portions, inventory, and food service.

• Help ensure meals are prepared and served in accordance with applicable food-safety and program requirements.

Keep Things Moving

• Transport food and supplies from vendors and other designated locations.

• Safely operate shelter vehicles, including a van and box truck.

• Maintain the cleanliness and proper care of shelter vehicles.

• Assist with other operational needs as assigned.

Be a Supportive Presence for Residents

• Work alongside shelter staff to promote residents’ well-being and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.

• Apply trauma-informed principles when interacting with residents and families.

• Maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere during meals and daily activities.

• Provide operational support and help ensure shelter policies and procedures are followed.

• Complete required client-service documentation accurately and on time.

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all client and agency information.

What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is both a skilled food-service professional and a compassionate team member. You should take pride in preparing quality meals, be comfortable managing a kitchen independently, and understand the importance of consistency, cleanliness, organization, and food safety.

Just as importantly, you should be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and responding calmly and respectfully when someone is experiencing a difficult moment.

Required:

• High school diploma or GED.

• Previous experience in institutional, commercial, school, healthcare, shelter, or other large-scale food service.

• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, safe food handling, and proper food storage.

• Experience with menu planning, meal production, inventory management, portion control, and food-service records.

• Ability to plan and prepare meals and manage food-service responsibilities independently.

• Strong organizational, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance.

• Food Handler certification or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

• Ability to work an assigned five-day schedule, including weekends and holidays, based on shelter needs.

• Successful completion of required background screening, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and driving record check.

Preferred:

• Working knowledge of USDA and CACFP guidelines and requirements applicable to shelter food service.

• Current Certified Food Protection Manager certification.

• Culinary, nutrition, hospitality, or food-service education or certification.

• Experience operating a 15-passenger van, box truck, or similar vehicle.

• Bilingual Spanish communication skills.

First Aid and CPR certification is required but may be completed after hire with agency guidance.
