Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care in line with departmental needs and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As an essential member of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist conducts various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Perform diagnostic tests to determine the necessity for and response to respiratory therapy.
• Administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy.
• Assist in the placement of artificial airways and manage mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patients for therapeutic responses, alerting providers and intervening as necessary in case of adverse reactions.
• Support the transportation of patients reliant on ventilators.
• Respond to emergency situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation when required.

Qualifications:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of starting employment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification must be obtained within 90 days of starting employment.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification must be obtained within 90 days of starting employment.
• Associate Degree in a relevant field.
• State certification as a Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner (RRT/RCP).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC-RRT).
