Summary/Objective

Assist with the development, production, installation, delivery, and maintenance of exhibits. This includes casework, hands-on interactives, and interactive technology experiences.

Essential Job Duties

• Reads and interprets all blueprints pertaining to the manufacturing and maintaining of exhibits.
• Sets-up and operates a variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair exhibit components.
• Must be able to operate equipment such as saws, planes, drill presses, hand tools, etc. with little or no supervision safely.
• Applies general knowledge concerning lamination, solid surface materials, wood joinery, and alternative materials.
• Fabricate and assemble 80/20 aluminum extrusion components
• Read and follow Safety Data Sheets for all products that are new to you. Read and follow all manufacture recommendations.
• Operates in a safe and knowledgeable manner all types of air tools, staple guns and spray equipment.
• Able to work with a team to meet production schedules.
• Required to travel in-state for installation and delivery, occasional overnight stay required.
• Procure materials and supplies for projects.
• Order tools and other inventory supplies, as needed.
• Communicate with internal and external parties regarding maintenance needs and project status, by phone, email and in-person discussions.
• This position is 30-40 hours a week, varies based on current workload of the exhibit shop.

Ancillary Job Duties

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED/HiSET required.
• Must maintain a valid, current driver's license.
• Experience in general carpentry and building construction work preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment (forklift, scissor lift, etc)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Mechanical, low voltage electrical, and construction knowledge.
• Ability to read construction drawings
• Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical trades.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, & Outlook

Work Environment

• Occasionally work in confined spaces, and in high places, requiring the use of lift devices.
• Frequently exposed to vibration and loud noises associated with power tools requiring hearing protection.
• Occasionally exposed to oils, chemicals and airborne particles which may require the use of a respirator and to electrical hazards requiring proper specific safety procedures.
• Regularly work in outdoor environments where hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions exist.

Physical Abilities

• Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
• Regularly operate tools and other machinery and relocate machinery to other areas.
• Frequently ascends/descends a ladder whilst working.
• Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Frequently lift up to 75 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds.
• Concentrated attention is required at all times.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
