Bus Drivers are paid a minimum of 4 hours per day with several opportunities to pick up additional routes during the day or after school.
Year Hourly 1 $19.86 2 $20.39 3 $20.92 4 $21.45 5 $22.30 6 $23.15 7 $26.38 8 $26.65 9 $26.91 10 $27.18 A year of service annual increase will be provided to employees who have completed 120 working days in a paid status per school year based on the board approved salary schedule. New employees will begin on year 1.

Bus drivers work part-time hours with full-time benefits! EVSC offers four (4) Anthem medical insurance plans. Full medical, dental and vision insurance are provided with this position. Click here to view the rates for each plan. If elected, insurance coverage begins the first of the month following the successful completion of a 30-day probationary period.
Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use any of the three EVSC Health & Wellness Centers. The health clinics provide primary care services, generic prescription medications, physicals, health screenings, and labs; all at NO COST to the employee or covered family member. EVSC is proud to provide accumulated paid time off for:
This position will automatically be enrolled in the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). Employees may also participate in a 403(b) Plan. Enrolling in the 403(b) plan allows employees to save for their retirement by making a pre-tax salary deferral contributions to the Plan. Eligible employees may enroll in the EVSC group life insurance and long term disability plans. EVSC also offers a variety of voluntary insurance products through American Fidelity.

The Bus Driver transports students over specified routes according to time schedule. The driver ensures compliance with all traffic laws, safety regulations and school transportation policies while maintaining a safe environment for student passengers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate a school bus safely, professionally, and in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Conduct and properly document daily pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
- Comply with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district transportation procedures.
- Maintain appropriate student discipline in accordance with the student code of conduct and transportation policies.
- Participate in required training programs, meetings, and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation and maneuvering of a Type A school bus.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the employment contract and follow all supervisory directives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date route sheets and transportation records.
- Complete required training prior to transporting students with special needs or operating a special needs route.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment to promote student safety and comfort.
- Report accidents, incidents, mechanical issues, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
- *Special Education bus drivers (only) complete training required on handling disabled students.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Must have training (only) if driving special needs route for any purpose.
- Build positive relationships with students and encourages them to reach their full potential.
- Ability to read and understand maps.
- Ability to pass state skill test, state written test, Department of Transportation physical and MDE Basic Training Program.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Work collaboratively with EVSC employees, vendors and community partners in a teamwork-driven environment

- Continuously driving on the job.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds such as students.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision, and distance.
- Ability to assist students when an emergency evacuation is needed.
- Must be able to hear and talk.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 .
- Occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
- The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers.
- The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
