Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations for a growing multifamily construction, development, and property management organization. This role manages financial reporting, job costing, project accounting, budgeting support, and month-end close activities while ensuring accurate financial information across multiple projects and entities.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction accounting, multifamily housing, affordable housing, real estate development, or property management, and possesses a strong understanding of project-based accounting and financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and cash management.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Support accounting functions for multifamily construction, development, rehabilitation, and housing projects.
• Monitor project budgets, job costing, contract billing, and project financial performance.
• Assist with preparation of financial forecasts, operating budgets, and variance analysis.
• Ensure accurate tracking of construction costs, commitments, and project expenditures.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Development Managers, and executive leadership regarding project financial reporting.
• Support lender reporting, investor reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Assist with audit preparation, tax reporting, and year-end financial activities.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting procedures, and process improvements.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while supporting professional development and departmental growth.
• Manage multiple entities and projects while ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of accounting experience within construction, multifamily housing, real estate development, or property management.
• Strong experience with job costing, project accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting multifamily construction, affordable housing, mixed-use developments, or residential communities strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of construction accounting principles including WIP schedules, contract billing, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience managing accounting staff and departmental workflows.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• CPA designation or progress toward certification preferred.
• Experience with affordable housing programs, LIHTC developments, or multifamily development accounting is a plus.
• Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems such as Yardi, Sage, Timberline, Viewpoint Vista, MRI, JD Edwards, or similar software.
• Experience supporting organizations with both construction and property operations preferred.
