Veterinary Technician

Employee Type: FT Non-Exempt J ob Summary : Licensed by the state board, the veterinary technician is the veterinarian’s primary medical support. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets. Essential functions and responsibilities Assist the Veterinarian during exams and treatments; prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by Veterinarian. Perform basic routine diagnostic tests such as blood draws, fecal exams, and urinalysis monitoring the health status of pets, reporting changes and concerns to Veterinarian. Perform skilled procedures and tasks, within their scope of practice as defined by the state’s practice act, such as assisting during medical procedures, and monitoring a patient's condition, giving medications, vaccines, anesthesia, and providing first aid. Safely handle and restrain pets during exams; monitor the pet’s behavior and well-being, addressing any issues promptly and safely. Build strong relationships with pet parents to foster a supportive and trusting environment. Educate pet owners on general health care and preventative measures. Promote pet parent compliance with health strategies, treatment plans, and nutrition plans as advised by Veterinarian. Ensure complete and accurate medical records complying with state , federal, and industry regulations. Support leadership and Veterinarian with accurately maintaining inventory of supplies and medications. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work environment such as exam room(s) and client waiting areas. Ensure all medical equipment and supplies are properly cleaned , sterilized , and organized . Perform other clerical and administrative duties as needed . Education & Certifications Associate’s degree in veterinary technology or related field. Credential (license, registration, certification) as a Veterinary Technician in the state of operation. 1-2 years of related veterinary care experience. Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and animal handling techniques. Strong written and verbal communication skills; collaborative with strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs ; perform physical activities such as standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical Requirements Stand and/or walk for up to 6 hours without a break. Kneel, bend, squat, and twist their body . Repetitive hand and arm movement; reach, grab, pull, and push objects. Perform duties in an environment with loud sounds from animals and smells from pet waste and cleaning chemicals. Lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance. #J-18808-Ljbffr
