Food Service Specialist

Description

Prepares and serves meals; actively involved with food handling, preparation, meal service and equipment cleaning. This position reports directly to the Nutritional Services Supervisor.

Position Responsibilities include:

Coordinate food preparation and meal service.

Plan and initiate cooking schedule for food preparation to meet meal schedule.

Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to appropriate portion control standards.

Prepare nutritional snacks as directed by the Nutritional services supervisor.

Monitor temperature of hot and cold foods through food preparation and service to ensure that established food safety standards are maintained.

Carries pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator; transfers food, utensils, and equipment between storage and work areas.

Maintains kitchen work areas and equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties: scrapes food from dirty dishes and washes them by hand or places them in racks or on conveyor to dishwashing machine; washes pots, pans, and trays; sweeps and mops kitchen floors; washes worktables, walls, refrigerators, and other kitchen equipment as assigned.

Loads or unloads trucks/carts picking up or delivering supplies/food.

Be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and facility's rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent education is preferred.


Minimum one (1) year food service experience is desired.

Verbal and written skills necessary to communicate with various levels of staff, patients, family members and the general public.

Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, general instructions, nutritional plans, and work assignments.
