ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING

JOB SUMMARY

TheAssistant Director of Nursing works with the Director of Nursing to manage the Nursing Department with highprofessional and personal standards. He/She works with the Director of Nursing to plan, organize, coordinateand direct the nursing functions for professional and nonprofessional nursingpersonnel to ensure the highest quality ofcare is provided in a cost effective manner to the residents in the facility. TheAssistant Director of Nursing works with the Director of Nursing to exercise administrative authority, responsibility andaccountability for nursing service objectives,policies and procedures, nursing functions and activities, nursing care, and the nursing staff and their training. TheAssistant Director of Nursing is responsible to the Director of Nursing of the facility.

EDUCATION

He/Shemust be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing currently registered with the state agency for nursinglicensure and hold a valid nursing license in the state he/she is employed.

2. Hasthe ability to organize, plan and supervise the Nursing Department in coordination with other residentservices.
3. Demonstratesthe ability to lead the Nursing Department in a cost effective, professional manner.
4. Maintains effectiveinterpersonal relationships.
5. Is capable ofimplementing changes as mandated by Federal, State and management suggestions.
6. Isof good emotional, mental and physical health, having sound judgment and high professional standards.
7. Iscourteous in working with residents, families and employees.
8. Maintainsa neat, well-groomed and professional appearance at all times.
9. Hasa desire to work with the geriatric residents and their current and prospective needs.
10. Must be willing to bein the facility working with the staff of each shift at varying times.
11. Mustbe willing to be in and/or available to the facility weekends as well as weekdays.
12. Mustdemonstrate ability to follow recommendations as designated by the Corporate Nurse.
13. Mustdemonstrate ability to evaluate the geriatric resident's needs and implement systems to meet theseneeds.
14. Mustdemonstrate ability to evaluate nursing staff needs and implement systems to assure staffeducation is provided to provide quality are.
15. Mustdemonstrate the ability to function as a cooperative team member with all disciplines in the facility.
16. Mustdemonstrate the ability to manage Nursing Department within designated staffing and supplybudget.
17. Iswilling and capable of providing emergency care as needed for any resident in the facility.
18. Musthave a pre-employment and an annual Tuberculosis screening examination.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Evaluates, plans and organizes nursing care according toestablished policies.
2. Supervises all nursing activities and promotesimprovement in nursing care.
3. Coordinatesnursing service with other departments
4. Maintainsaccurate reporting and recording according to policies and procedures, evaluates and makesrecommendations for improvements for the welfare of the resident.
5. Maintains comfort and pleasant environment andpromotes elimination of hazards.
6. Sees that supplies are available in proper quantities,that equipment is available in goodcondition, and that personnel using such supplies and equipment know where such are to be found and knowthe proper care and use.
7. Responsiblefor assuring accurate recording of medications and narcotics according to procedures.
8. Makesrounds routinely, implements interventions as indicated.
9. Seesthat all personnel on the shift are oriented to the duties assigned to them.
10. Assigns personnelaccording to various skills in relation to resident needs.
11. Stimulatesinterest and attitudes in personnel to develop understanding of and encourage health and restorative nursingpractices.
12. Givesguidance to personnel as needed, evaluates performance, discusses progress and needs for improvement, and preparesevaluation of performance as directed.
13. Assists/completes staff schedules as needed.
14. Assistsin interpreting the goals and objectives of the facility to nursing service personnel.
15. Assistswith interviewing, evaluating and selecting new personnel.
16. Definesduties and interprets policies of nursing service.
17. Verifiestime worked on personnel time cards as necessary.
18. Promoteseffective working relationships with the administrator, medical staff, personnel, volunteers andagencies, and management staff affiliated with the facility.
19. Delegatesresponsibility and authority.
20. Performs other tasks as assigned.
21. Attendsrequired staff in-services, meetings, orientation, and continuing education activitiesas required.
22. Is aware ofand adheres to Patient’s Bill of Rights and confidentiality of patientinformation including HIPAA regulations.
23. Interacts withpatients and family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in anon-judgmental, supportive and calm manner.
24. Is aware ofPatient Abuse Reporting Law.
25. Participatesas assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive,helpful and enthusiastic attitude.
