Field Service Technician I – Stellantis Sterling Heights SHSP – Detroit, MI Non‑Exempt (hourly) Department: Field Service Position Summary The Field Service Technician will support our fuel cell products currently installed in electric lift trucks, performing preventative maintenance and resolving breakdowns. This person will service fuel cells at a specific location, report breakdown events, order parts, and maintain fuel cells. The role requires excellent technical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Core Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance and service of fuel cells at customer sites. Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to maintain the fleet. Conduct specialized service procedures, including field retrofits, software and hardware upgrades. Provide emergency support service to customers as required. Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for customer service and support as required. May troubleshoot and maintain high‑pressure hydrogen storage, delivery, and fueling systems. May maintain communication with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers regarding aftermarket support. Provide regular feedback to regional service representatives regarding fuel cell performance and field maintenance issues. Complete administrative duties and documentation, including incident reports, service logs, inventory maintenance, and site and system documentation. Enforce safety procedures in the field or at customer sites. Travel as required for business needs; expected to drive safely and abide by all traffic laws. Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with technical electrical coursework. Three or more years of direct experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. Formal training and education may be considered in lieu of direct experience. Valid driver license, clean driving record, and ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis unassisted. Knowledge of lift truck operation and applications is highly preferred. General mechanical aptitude required. Computer and software skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) as applicable to the position. Dynamic interpersonal skills and effective communication with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Creativity in solving technical problems. Ability to work independently. Uncompromising dedication to quality. Technician must provide own standard set of tools; specific fuel cell tools will be provided by Plug Power. Step 1 Requirements Technical Requirements Complete all necessary onboarding and customer site training. Create, order, and properly close work orders. Utilize email, text alerts, expense system, and service portal. Demonstrate use of a multimeter. Send accurate daily BOD and EOD reports. Escalate to tech support and management when needed. Clear alarms for H2 pad and dispenser. Use tools and follow standard procedures (swage, clamps, crimps, hardware). Perform H2 pad and dispenser inspections. Step 2 Requirements Technical Requirements Check floating and isolated grounds. Attend and participate in FS Technical Training Program. Replace a stack on various GenDrive models. LOD Hands On. Receive and ship batteries and parts. Remove and replace fueling nozzle. Hook up and use HPTT. Replace wearable components on H2 systems. Reset H2 gas compressor. Lock cascade valves. Non‑Technical Requirements Excellent task‑oriented follow‑through. Uses time productively and finds opportunities to contribute, even during low‑volume repair periods. Practices and exhibits 5S standards. Communicates effectively to RSR and RSM levels, keeping management informed of site‑level matters. Willing and able to respond to off‑shift needs.
