Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)

Butterfly Grove School is a premier independent school dedicated exclusively to the education

and empowerment of students on the autism spectrum. The RBT assists in the development

and implementation of a variety of behavior plans, monitors and collects data, and collaborates

with the classroom and therapeutic staff to model and coach the implementation of behavior

plans.

Using best practices in behavioral support and social skills training, the RBT works directly with

students to promote skill acquisition, enhance skill performance, reduce interfering behaviors,

and facilitate the generalization of pro-social behavior. The RBT also brings their behavioral

expertise into daily classroom and therapeutic support, working as an integral member of the

teaching and clinical team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  1. Clinical Duties:

● Assist with the implementation and monitoring of Behavior Plans and skill

acquisition programs under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA.

● Ability to read and identify the essential components of Behavior Plans and

Individualized goals and programming as it relates to behavior areas of need.

● Assist BCBA with observations and data collection for assessments

● Collect and monitor on-going behavior data and samples

● Assist teachers and staff on behavior data collection measures

● Assist BCBA in analyzing and interpreting data

● Assist in the development of reinforcement identification procedures

  1. Support & Training

● Provide modeling and support to staff on how to implement behavioral

interventions and supports

○ Describe behavior functions and appropriate individualized strategies for

staff to use

○ Modeling scenarios across environments

○ Assist staff in de-escalation and co-regulation strategies for individual

students

● Provide feedback/explanation to staff about interventions

  1. Collaboration

● The “Whole Child” Team: Consult with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs),

Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Specials Teachers to ensure behavioral

supports are integrated into all activities

● Collaborate daily with Pod Teachers and the LISS to align behavioral

programming with instructional goals and individual student plans

  1. Professionalism & Compliance

● Maintain active RBT or BCaBA certification and comply with all BACB continuing

education and supervision requirements

● Uphold and model the ethical standards and professional conduct expected of all

BGS faculty and staff

● Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in

behavior analysis, autism-specific intervention, and neurodiversity-affirming

approaches

● Perform related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role requires the physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities. Regular requirements

include standing, walking, and verbal communication. The role also involves occasional sitting,

use of hands for handling objects or tools, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.

Employees must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. Visual requirements include close, distance, color,

and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed across multiple classroom environments and common areas throughout the

school day. The role involves working directly with children, and the employee must ensure that

students are supervised at all times and engaged in safe and appropriate activities. The

employee regularly works with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors and must be

prepared to implement de-escalation and safety protocols as trained.

SCHEDULE:

• Monday to Friday

• Approximately 204 days, aligned to the annual BGS school calendar

• Occasional off-hour work is required

Skills and Requirements

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

● Maintain Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) certification as Registered

Behavior Technician (RBT) or Board-Certified assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA)

● A minimum of 4 years of experience providing behavioral support and social skills

training

● Prior experience in a Non-Public or Independent School serving neurodiverse students,

preferred

● Deep, nuanced understanding of the autism spectrum, including sensory processing,

communication differences, and behavioral support

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to maintain

cooperative, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and families

● Minimum of an Associates Degree in the following fields: child development, education,

early childhood, education, psychology or related field

● Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license

Minimum Requirements:

● Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

● Ability to pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint clearance

● Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the

California Education Code

● Training in BGS-approved crisis management program (or obtained within the first 90

days of employment)

● First Aid Certificate, including CPR (obtained within the first 60 days of employment)
