American Sign Language Interpreter / Coordinator

Overview Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a part-time American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter/Coordinator to provide and/or secure ASL interpreter services for staff and faculty in classes, meetings, events, and other college activities. The role adheres to the RID Code of Professional Conduct ( and collaborates with College partners to develop and implement deaf awareness/interpreter awareness initiatives. The position leads monthly collaboration meetings and assists with developing and updating interpreter policies and procedures. Schedule will vary based on assigned activities, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate Deaf/HOH faculty and staff. Responsibilities Provides and/or secures ASL interpreting services for staff and faculty in classes, meetings, events and other college activities and adheres to the RID Code of Professional Conduct ( Collaborates with College partners to develop and implement Deaf Awareness / Interpreter Awareness initiatives and leads monthly meetings to improve knowledge and understanding of Deaf/HOH culture and community Assists with developing and updating interpreter policies and procedures Commits to ongoing professional development and CEUs Performs other duties as assigned Part-time position with schedule that will include evenings and weekends as needed Starting pay for this position will likely range from $30.87 to $37.87 per hour depending on qualifications and experience Qualifications Bachelor's degree RID Certification (National Interpreter Certification) or willingness to obtain within one year Completion of an accredited interpreter training program or equivalent Completion of the RID Alternative Pathway Program in conjunction with willingness to work with a Deaf Mentor and complete the NIC certification within one year can substitute for the bachelor\'s degree requirement Two years of experience working in sign language or interpreting Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language Knowledge of Deaf culture and community Demonstrated proficiency in written / spoken English and American Sign Language Bilingual and bicultural competence Ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality in all interpreting assignments Ability to work effectively in a team environment Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with Deaf / HOH faculty and students and the ability to interpret the Pidgin Sign Language (PSE), Signed Exact English (SEE) and/or oral Method / CI Implant User Benefits & Additional Information This is a part-time position with sick and safe leave benefits. The schedule is variable and will include evenings and weekends as needed. The starting pay for this position will likely range from $30.87 to $37.87 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
