Structural Steel Welder / Fabricator
Location: Orion Township, MI Job Type: Full-Time
We are hiring a skilled Structural Steel Welder / Fabricator to support production in a fast-paced fabrication shop. This role involves MIG / GMAW welding, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication for custom equipment and structural components.
Ideal candidates have hands-on experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding and fabrication using MIG / GMAW processes
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Measure, cut, and fit materials to specifications
- Operate fabrication equipment including:
- Saws, grinders, drills
- Plasma cutters and torches
- Shears and ironworkers
- Inspect welds to ensure quality and accuracy
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Use overhead cranes, rigging, and forklifts safely
- Assist with assembly, testing, and shipment preparation
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in welding and structural steel fabrication
- Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) welding
- Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings
- Experience with hand tools and shop equipment
- Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts
- Strong knowledge of shop safety practices
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
- AWS Welding Certification
- Experience with custom fabrication or machinery
Work Environment
- Fabrication shop with moderate to high noise levels
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and industrial equipment
- May include overtime, outdoor work, or varied conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials
- Stand, bend, and work in various positions for extended periods
- Follow written and verbal instructions safely and accurately
