Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical position at an orthopedic-focused hospital, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and Trauma Level II background.

Details

• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Work setting is a Medical Surgical unit within an orthopedic-focused academic teaching hospital
• Patient population includes orthopedic, trauma, telemetry, and general medical-surgical cases
• Patient ratio is 1:5
• Cerner EMR experience is preferred
• Floating is mandatory — Med/Surg travelers may float to MS/Tele units or serve as Patient Observers (Sitters)
• 50% of holidays during the contract are required to be worked
• Weekend requirement is 50% of the contract duration
• On-call responsibilities are required

Requirements

• Active MO or Compact RN license required — must be in hand at time of consideration (no pending licenses accepted)
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year in a Med/Surg specialty
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Teaching hospital and LTAC experience preferred
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• Ability to ambulate, reach, and lift/move objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
• 2 professional references required for consideration
• Date of birth (DOB) and SSN required for consideration
• Active RN license required for consideration — no pending licenses accepted

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible at the travel pay rate; candidates between 50–75 miles may be considered at a reduced rate
• RTO is capped at a maximum of 10 days for the contract
• Travelers may work up to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts (9 months); a mandatory 6-month break is required before returning in an agency capacity
• Re-orientation is not required for travelers returning within 18 months
• Preferred skills include: IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC/central line management, blood product administration, telemetry monitoring, wound care/wound vac, and BiPAP/CPAP management
• Orthopedic-specific experience is a plus, including total joint replacement, ortho trauma, and peripheral nerve block catheter management
• The facility operates 24/7/365; rotating shifts and working during inclement weather may be required
• Orientation includes non-billable online modules averaging 4–6 hours, completed onsite and tracked through Cornerstone
