OptometristHot Job917 N 4th St - Wilmington, NC 28401OverviewPosition Type Part Time Category Health CareDescriptionAVAILABILITY FOR FULL-TIME AND PART-TIMESUMMARY:Direct and provide outpatient care to clinic patients and ensure quality assurance including examination of patient's eyes, sight testing, diagnosis of visual disorders and diseases, determining course of treatment, providing and supervising appropriate treatment for such diseases, including glaucoma, cataract and diabetes.Optometrist Responsibilities:Perform thorough routine eye inspections.Identify the patient's visual alertness, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination.Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness and color blindness.Prescribe corrective lenses and medications.Maintain accurate medical files for all patients.Promote eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques.Identify and assess eye defects and diseases such as diabetes and liver failure.Record all diagnosis and treatment plans including transfers and therapeutic prescriptions.Perform other duties, as needed, by the physicians to provide the highest level of ophthalmic care to each of our patientsParticipate in quality assurance, quality improvement and utilization reviewExamine the eyes of patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality or vision defectsExamine eyes and fitting spectacles or contact lensesWrite referral communications to doctorsReading retinal scansPrescribe medicines for people with eye conditionsParticipate in the development of clinic protocols and procedures to ensure quality eye careParticipate in utilization and peer review programs which evaluates the quality of the optometry staff and services being performed at the clinicsOptometrist Requirements:Doctor of optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited optometry schoolMust possess a state-issued license for O.D. and optometry.A minimum of 2 years' experience as an Optometrist.Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions.Proficiency with modern eye care techniques and equipmentCustomer service oriented with excellent analytical skills.Current CPR certificationDEA licensePreferredBilingual English/Spanish preferredExperience/familiarity with Practice Management and Electronic Medical Records systems, Epic preferredREQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:Experience/familiarity with computers, Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel), business e-mail communication systems and internet search capabilitiesEach staff member is a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home model and you are required to work as part of a team to provide high-quality, patient-focused care.
