Criminal Justice Instructor

About the Role Position: Adjunct Instructor – Part‑time. The role is part of the College of the Desert’s adjunct faculty pool and focuses on teaching in‑person across multiple campus sites. Responsibilities Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs, courses, and other learning experiences that promote student growth. Deliver instruction consistent with official course outlines and campus policies. Create and distribute course syllabi outlining objectives, grading criteria, and classroom policies. Ensure course materials and textbooks are available to students. Provide student academic support, including tutoring referrals, advising, and office‑hour assistance. Evaluate student progress, return graded assignments, and submit required reporting forms. Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and grading as required by district policy. Optional Duties Assist with credit‑by‑examination programs. Participate in curriculum development and review. Develop alternative teaching modalities and adapt materials for online delivery. Schedule and announce office hours. Contribute to department or district committees. Engage in shared governance, including professional development and mentorship of new faculty. Assist with recruitment activities and position announcements. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher (with two years of professional experience) or associate degree with six years of experience, directly related to the teaching assignment; a master’s degree requires professional experience. Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disability backgrounds of community college students. Employment Status Part‑time adjunct instructor. Primary modality will be in‑person instruction at Palm Desert, Indio, Mecca‑Thermal, Desert Hot Springs, or Palm Springs. Classes may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend. Work Conditions Classroom and faculty office environment; potential for online synchronous and asynchronous components.
